About Sniff
We read dog food labels so you don't have to.
Sniff exists because there's no honest, independent place to get a straight answer about dog food. The biggest "review" sites are owned by retailers. Brand marketing is everywhere. AAFCO labels are written for regulators, not pet owners.
How we're different
- We publish the methodology in full. Every weight, every threshold, every flagged ingredient. Read it here. If you think we got something wrong, we want to know.
- Our affiliate commissions are flat. When you buy through one of our links, we earn a percentage. The percentage is the same whether the product scored a 9 or a 2. We literally cannot benefit from inflating a score.
- Every product gets the same rubric. The big-name premiums, the grocery-store regulars, the new direct-to-consumer brands. Same standards, same scrutiny.
- We acknowledge uncertainty. Every score has a confidence rating next to it. A product scoring an A with "Limited" evidence is a different signal than an A with "Robust" evidence. We show both.
What Sniff isn't
- We are not a veterinary practice. Nothing on Sniff is medical advice. If your dog has a condition, talk to your veterinarian.
- We are not a brand-sponsored content site. We've never accepted payment from a dog food manufacturer.
- We are not the final word. We're one rigorous opinion, with our reasoning published in full. Disagree with us specifically and we'll engage.
